About city

herb Timisoara CoA1

Timișoara is the capital city of Timiș County, in western Romania. One of the largest Romanian cities. It is the main social, economic and cultural centre in the western part of Romania.

Green spaces
timisoara-3Timisoara has long been known as the "city of flowers." The local public administration has made constant efforts to create an ecological habitat, an attractive and pleasant living environment for the city's inhabitants, a "Green Timisoara". This has been achieved by the architectural landscaping of the city's parks, squares and Botanical Garden, along with the development of infrastructure and services for sports and recreation. Thus, a main feature in the architecture of urban green spaces are the tree alignments of the major thoroughfares, each neighborhood having a particular species of tree located on its streets.
Climate change
A series of measures to improve the energy efficiency of buildings has been adopted in order to improve the adaptability of the urban spaces to climate changes. Also, an adequate infrastructure was implemented, in order to prevent and manage natural hazards.
Waste management
timisoara-4In this sector several major initiatives have been implemented: the ecological landfill at Ghizela for the disposal of municipal waste, the waste transfer station in Timisoara, containers for solid waste in all the city's neighborhoods, a modern wastewater treatment station where over 80% of the treatment processes are monitored automatically, etc.

City Infrastructure
Timişoara is currently the main entrance in Romania from Central and Western Europe, thanks to its favorable location, with multiple communication paths interconnecting through land, air and water.
Timişoara is situated in western Romania and is located in the south-east of the Pannonian Basin, at a distance of less than 700 km from 13 European capitals, on the course of two corridors of the European transport network TEN-T: Rhine - Danube and Orient/ Eastern Mediterranean.
With regard to road transport, Timişoara is at the crossroads of major European communication routes (E 70 and E 671), which provide connections to Central and South-East Europe. Timişoara's road infrastructure was largely restored in recent years, but the connection points that would streamline traffic flow are still missing. Also, the fact that the A1 highway section Timişoara - Lugoj - Deva - Sibiu is still under construction causes further difficulties and heavy traffic in the city center.
Timişoara has a highly developed public transport network, serving all city neighborhoods, with a total of 38 routes including 8 tramway routes, 6 trolleybus routes, 19 bus routes and 5 metropolitan transport routes.
Timişoara, with its 4 railway stations, is the most important railway junction in Romania, after Bucharest.
Timişoara's Traian Vuia International Airport provides both scheduled and charter passanger and cargo flights, linking Timişoara to Bucharest and other important cities of the world: Munich, Rome, Dortmund, Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, London, Brussels, Bergamo, Milan and others.
timisoara-5The advantages created by the city's favorable position are amplified by the possibility of access, via the Bega Canal, to the European waterway passage Danube - Main - Rhine which connects North-West and South-East Europe (from the North Sea to the Black Sea). This fact explains the initiative of the local public administration to reactivate the navigation on the Bega Canal, which was commercially exploited until the mid twentieth century (1954)

Economy and Investments

Timisoara is pursuing an innovative and sustainable economic development, in parallel with the development of the industrial sectors that use ICT.

A major development priority is to ensure a stable and diversified economic growth through development of intelligent and creative services that use the highly qualified labor force existing in the area and the industries that use ICT. In order to achieve these goals, local projects are being carried out; these projects provide for the creation of integrated structures of innovation and applied scientific research.

Another priority are programs aimed at creating business support infrastructures while improving local public administration performance through increased transparency, efficiency and customer service. These programs will contribute to a stable and attractive business environment for investors.

Timişoara must also maintain and strengthen its position as a polarizing commercial center, due to its large outlet markets and high purchasing power of the population.

In Timişoara there are attractive industrial sites, with good connections to infrastructure, with rent prices ranging between 30 and 150 Euro / sqm. Industrial sites in the west and southwest of the city, namely in Şagului and Torontalului areas, have developed mainly due to the location of major companies along the main arteries of access to the city. Prices on industrial and storage platforms are different, depending on distances to roads and existing infrastructure.
The city's administration has set up industrial parks, which are particularly attractive because they have optimal access to the public infrastructure and can be leased under very favorable conditions

Freidorf Industrial Park
Freidorf Industrial Park is an industrial area established by Timisoara Local Council Decision. The reason of its establishment was the attraction of foreign investors, the creation of new jobs and the introduction of new technologies. The industrial park is the property of the Municipality of Timisoara and covers an area of 63 hectars.
The location has very good transport connections: 7 km to the city center; 2,5 km to the national road DN 59; 8 km to the national road DN 6, European road E 671 and European road E 70; 15 km to the International Airport "Traian Vuia" Timisoara. A four-lane thoroughfare connects existing plants to the city center. Also, the entire area has access to urban infrastructure (water, sewage, electricy, gas, phone connection by fibreglass).
The land is leased for a period of 49 years with possibility of extension for another 24.5 years, which means a total of 73.5 years. The land is acquired through open public procurement, the starting price being 0.96 euro / sqm / year. The auction is held in accordance with the legal provisions and conditions of the lease: the buildings should cover between 30% and 70% of the entire leased area; at least 20% of the leased plot area should be green space; at least 50 jobs should be created for one hectare leased. Plot division, soil sealing and changes in the Land Registry will be made after the public procurement procedure, at the expense of the investors.
The dominant characteristics of the Freidorf Industrial Park are: the existence of a railway route on the south side of the area and of the Bega Canal on the north side of the area.
There are several infrastructure proposals which, if implemented, will influence the development of Freidorf Industrial Park: creating a city bypass that will pass adjacent to the western side of the site and will facilitate the connection with DN 59 ,DN 59A, and DN 69; creating a port on the northern side of the area, in order for the Bega Canal to be used again for shipping.

Regional business infrastructure and innovation in the ICTsector
The regional business infrastructure and innovation in the ICTsector is located in the centre of Timişoara. It is a response to the need for a local business support structure that would encourage local entrepreneurial initiative in an area of strategic importance for the fulfillment of the vision of development of the Growth Pole Timisoara - ICT- and for the sustainable development of the business environment in the West Region.
The infrastructure has a new and modern building, attractive for young investors, building that includes spaces for the start-up of micro-enterprises and a business centre for the consolidation of small and medium-sized companies.
The users of these spaces have state-of-the-art technical infrastructure for an optimal usage – Internet, high-speed network connections, copy centre, etc. There are also spaces for seminars, conferences, exhibitions, a space for sport and recreation, and a fast-food.
The building has 30 spaces for micro-enterprises for the incubation stage. Other 24 spaces are available for the small and medium-sized ICTcompanies for the consolidation stage. The rental prices are under the market prices and are 3,5 euros/sqm for the incubation stage and 5 euros/sqm for the consolidation stage.

The Regional Competence and Development Centre of Suppliers in the Automotive Sector

The competence centre has as its aims the development of the local suppliers, in order to increase the competitivity of Romanian companies and the stimulation of multinational companies to maintain their production units in the area. The competence centre provides the necessary conditions for the functioning of companies in the automotive field regarding prototyping and small series production, quality testing and measurement, the organization of fairs and exhibitions, conferences and seminars, the organization of qualification courses for the companies’ employees in the automotive field.
The building complex has 3 independent connected buildings with a built area of 1600 sqm (one three-story building and two one-story buildings). The centre is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment used in the automotive industry, as well as with the arrangements necessary for the optimal functioning of the centre.
The built area has an administrative and information space (50sqm), a measurement/testing lab (150 sqm), a plastic injection lab (700 sqm), a CNC machines lab (700 sqm), and a conference room. These spaces and equipments will be leased to companies for prices that are under the market price.

Timişoara – Technologic Pole (Technopol)
In collaboration with several universities from Timisoara, the local administration has created a detailed development concept for inventions and innovations. The concept encompasses the domains of ICT, automotive industry, bio technologies and renewable energy. The know-how transfer and collaboration with universities and partners from Germany, Great Britain, Austria, Spain and Italy were of great help. The realization of this concept implies the creation of support structures for business that are active in innovative fields. These are considered important ‘engines’ for the development of Timişoara’s economy.
The project envisages the implementation of these structures from start-up to completion:
1. Incubation stage (3-5 years)
The business incubator will support the entrepreneurs to accomplish their start-up projects. The objectives are: to ensure a share of a part of small and medium-sized companies, the consolidation of the entrepreneurs’ structure and increasing the number of local entrepreneurs, especially young ones.
2. Consolidation stage (3-10 years)
The business centre provides the necessary space for the development and consolidation of the business. The main objective is to support entrepreneurs and expand the cooperation between local, regional and foreign entrepreneurs.
3. Maturation stage (25 years and more)
The local government innovation park will provide potential investors with lands with complete connections, like "greenfield", which comprise a total area of approx. 92 ha., with good connections to the roads to Hungary and Serbia. On these lands that can be leased at advantageous prices the investors can build company headquaters. The expected result is the increase of the competitive ability in the fields of advanced technology, both at the regional and local level, through competitive products and services.
